Hey there kinky krew!
Its finally fall! And with Fall comes pumpkin spice everything, baked goods, and a moisture-rich hair routine! Yep you guessed it, it’s time to begin tweaking our normal hair care routines in order to combat the dry air. Admittedly, I’ve gotten a bit lazy with my routine but I know this is not going to fly throughout the winter months so here is my updated Pre-poo’ing routine.
4C/4B hair is probably one of the most difficult hair textures to retain moisture, especially during the winter months. Pre-poo’ing with oils or slippery conditioners is a must if you want to reduce dryness and breakage during this time of year.
To begin mixing my concoction I’ll reach for a conditioner rich in moisturizing properties and an oil. This conditioner has shea butter, cocoa butter, and honey. Honey is my top ingredient I search for when shopping for a conditioner or deep conditioner. Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and holds onto water molecules providing our hair with moisture and strength. The oil I used was a blend of Avacado, Olive, Almond, Coriander, Vitamins A, E & D, and Peppermint essential oil.
An extra step I’ve added into my regimen is heating up my pre-poo treatments in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds. This enhances the conditioners ability to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft (which we really need when working on dirty hair) and also cuts down on time. Remember this isn’t a deep condition, we are just doing a treatment prior to washing. No sense in walking around all day in a plastic cap waiting for your pre-treatment to penetrate via body heat. This just speeds up the process!
After sectioning my hair and applying I will let sit for about 10 minutes then proceed with my normal wash day.
